BIBLIOGRAPHY - WHO IS IRENE TUBBS

Just like many of you I’ve experienced periods in my life were various aspects of just living affected both my health and wellbeing. It is this normality, which over the years I have nurtured, challenged and used to deal with any personal problems, and health, in essence these experiences form the foundation of my skills and beliefs.

We all have personal skills, mine began in childhood where adults found I was a very good listener, and I always wanted to find a way to help them. This desire projected me towards the teaching arena where in 1976 I qualified as a Physical Education Specialist working with children/teenagers. In l977 I was a founder-contributor of a rehabilitation programme set up to assist patients recovering from conditions that affect the heart, a programme I still offer today. Such teaching naturally had a health bias because as you will see in the section on exercise, it is movement which stimulates health. In l984 I became a Senior Lecturer in Adult Education, responding to the needs of individuals or groups by initiating, developing and delivering a wide spectrum of educational and health orientated courses to suit all ages.

During the 80’s and 90’s I pursued my interest in understanding emotional/mental and behavioural elements of a persons life by training as a Counsellor and Stress Management Consultant. Since that time I have worked using a holistic format exploring any physical, emotional, behavioural and mental factors that have resulted in a client’s confusion or distress. I am an accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy www.bacp.co.uk, accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist by BABCP www.babcp.com, accredited Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapist & REB Coach by AREBT www.arebt.org.uk . I have extensive experience of working with clients who presented with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Bereavement, Anorexia, Bulimia, Depression, Panic Attacks, Anxiety, Anger, Obsessive Behavioural traits, Physical and sexual abuse, fertility/miscarriage/ still-birth, recovery after illness, psychosexual issues, relationship issues with partner, family, friends, colleagues and general self-damming processes, lack of confidence etc. I have also been a Consultant for Health Authorities, advising, liasing, and developing processes for setting up counselling services associated with local GP practices.

Although many may think ‘Coaching’ is a new development in attaining personal skills, as you will see from the section on ‘what is coaching’ it has been around for a long time, under many different guises. I have been practicing as a Life, Performance, Executive, Career, Psychological and Health Coach, for many years offering coaching within private, medical, local authority and charitable sectors.

I began to train others in my skills during the 90’s including training exercise specialists to take Coronary rehabilitation courses (community based) and currently offer Certificated courses in ‘Relaxation ’ and  ‘Health Coaching’ in conjunction with the Centre for Stress Management and Coaching which are both now integral parts of the modular certificate and diploma programmes in Stress Management and Coaching

Publications: Throughout these many years I provided all my courses with booklet/training manuals to support the practical processes of confidence boosting, managing change or improving health, but I have also written books on specific subjects such as:

Services, Investigations, Treatments & Avenues of Support for anyone
