irene-hsJust like all human’s I’ve experienced periods in my life where various aspects of just living affected both my health and wellbeing. But over the years I have learnt to use a range of personal skills to challenge and effectively deal with such personal problems. In essence these experiences alongside professional training form the foundation of my skills and beliefs.

We all have personal skills, mine began in childhood where I was a very good listener keen to find ways to help people. This desire projected me towards the teaching arena where in 1976 I qualified as a Physical Education Specialist working with children/teenagers. Such teaching naturally had a health bias because as you will see in the section on exercise, it is movement which stimulates the energy to maintain health. In l977 I was a founder-contributor in liaison with Dr. Stott at Lewisham Hospital of a self-help rehabilitation programme set up to assist patients recovering from conditions that affect the heart, a program I developed and offered for over 30 years. In l984 I became a Senior Lecturer in Adult Education, responding to the needs of individuals or groups by initiating, developing and delivering a wide spectrum of educational and health orientated courses to suit all ages.

During the 80’s and 90’s I pursued my interest in understanding emotional/mental and behavioural elements of a person’s life by training as a Counsellor and Stress Management Consultant. Since that time I have worked using a holistic format exploring physical, emotional, behavioural, mental and social factors that have resulted in a client’s self-doubts or distress. I am a senior accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy, accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with BABCP, senior accredited Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapist & accredited REB Coach with AREBT   I am also an Honorary Fellow of AREBT and past Chair (ten years) where amongst many other initiatives I was a trustee on the board of UKCP and a key player in the development of THE National UK Register of Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapists  I have extensive experience of working with clients who presented with Post traumatic stress disorder, bereavement, anorexia, bulimia, depression, panic attacks, anxiety, anger, obsessive behavioural traits, physical and sexual abuse, fertility/miscarriage/still-birth, recovery after illness, psychosexual issues, relationship issues with partner, family, friends, colleagues and general self-damming processes, lack of confidence etc. I have also been a Consultant for Health Authorities, advising, liaising, and developing processes for setting up counselling services associated with local GP practices. I am also very experienced in working with children of all ages, having devised a new therapeutic and teaching program called RECBE, detailed on this site.

Although many may think ‘Coaching’ is a new development in attaining personal skills, it has been around for a long time, under many different guises. I have been practicing as a Life, Performance, Executive, Career, Exercise, Relaxation, Stress, Psychological and Health Coach for over 30 years offering coaching within private, medical, local authority and charitable sectors.

Like all things in life costs are rising and as I want to get my self-help messages across to as many people as possible I am working on an additional series of low cost self-help and professional eBooks, providing copious evidence based strategies which when practiced by the individual are known to improve health and wellbeing.

All of these skills, firstly formulated as a teacher naturally led to my development as a professional trainer providing certificated training courses for  professionals already trained in areas such as: teaching; child care; osteopathy; physiotherapy; psychotherapy; fertility or generic counselling; health & caring professionals; medical practitioners; welfare officers; rehabilitation nurse or trainer; nurse therapist; life performance-health coaches; management consultants and therapists wishing to add additional skills to their core training or students studying to become a therapist or a health & wellbeing practitioner.  Details of courses can be found in the professional section of this website.

Publications: Throughout these many years I provided all my courses with booklet/training manuals to support the practical processes of confidence boosting, managing change or improving health, and imparting such knowledge and skills to others, but I have also written books on specific subjects such as:
